Online Retail Logistics Center (Darkstore) in Almaty, 273/2 Khan Shatyr St.

In December 2025, another online grocery logistics center launched its operations in Almaty. The facility was developed by our long-term partner and the online retail leader in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Magnum E-commerce.
The new Darkstore incorporates:
  • Chilling and freezing rooms.
  • Order consolidation and dispatch zones.
  • In-house production facilities.
  • Processing plants.
  • Long-term storage chambers for various product categories:
  • Dairy products;
  • Gastronomy (deli);
  • Vegetables;
  • Fruits;
  • Meat;
  • Fish;
  • Confectionery;
  • Salads;
  • Hot culinary products;
  • Bakery;
  • Frozen products.

For each chamber, cooled zone, or processing plant, our specialists selected dedicated solutions tailored to the specifics of each product and its handling requirements:
  • Dual-discharge evaporators for zones with permanent staff presence.
  • Air coolers with increased fin spacing for high-humidity cold rooms.
  • Industrial-series evaporators for large-scale storage areas.
  • Glass doors for picking goods from freezing rooms without entering the chamber.
  • Specialized evaporators designed for freezing rooms equipped with glass doors.
  • Swing doors selected for processing plants, consolidation zones, and dispatch areas.
  • Sliding doors for long-term storage chambers.
  • High-speed roll-up doors for specific product types.

The project features the most advanced solutions for energy conservation, operational cost minimization, and precise temperature maintenance. It factors in the specific operational demands of darkstores, which differ significantly from conventional logistics warehouses:
  • Adiabatic (evaporative) cooling systems for condensers. They significantly reduce electricity costs during the warm season.
  • A stepless capacity regulation system for central refrigeration units. It ensures that the system consumes exactly the amount of energy required at any given moment of the chilling and freezing installations' operation.
  • The integration of economizers within medium-temperature units to boost the capacity of low-temperature refrigeration machines. It allows the energy of medium-temperature machines to be utilized for low-temperature setups, saving both initial capital expenditures and ongoing operational costs.
  • Fans equipped with EC motors. They ensure that only the required electrical capacity is used while reducing noise levels.
  • Electronic expansion valves (EEVs) with intelligent control systems. They save up to 15% of the total energy consumed by the refrigeration machines.
  • A domestic hot water (DHW) system for 3 cubic meters of water, heated via the "free" condensation heat of the refrigerant.
  • Hot gas defrosting for low-temperature air coolers, eliminating the need for electric heating elements. This system not only reduces the required installed capacity and saves the client's money during each defrost cycle, but also thaws the evaporator far more efficiently, positively impacting overall temperature stability in the chambers.
  • An integrated dispatch, monitoring, and optimization system for all components of the chilling and freezing installations. It provides the client and the service company with complete data on the real-time operation of all systems, enabling adjustments without physical on-site presence. It sends preemptive alerts about potential issues, allowing them to be resolved before a serious breakdown occurs. The dispatch system toolkit also enables analytical work and system optimization via charts and reports, which are automatically recorded daily by the software for a period of at least 6 months.
These and many other innovations allow our client to significantly cut operational costs and ensure highly efficient, reliable, and prompt customer service, delivering top-quality products rapidly.

Eurocold Service Ltd executed the full scope of works:
  • Engineering of refrigeration systems;
  • Manufacturing and supply of sandwich panels for chilling/freezing rooms and processing plants;
  • Doors;
  • Central refrigeration units;
  • Air coolers;
  • Condensers;
  • Control panels;
  • Heat recovery and dispatch systems.

Our team carried out the on-site installation, assembly, testing, and commissioning of all equipment.
We also provide monthly maintenance and service support, which includes:
  • Routine scheduled maintenance;
  • Emergency call-out response;
  • Analytical evaluation utilizing the refrigeration equipment monitoring and dispatch system.

In addition to the new distribution center (darkstore) in Almaty, our client opened similar warehouses in 2025 in the following cities:
  • Karaganda;
  • Aktobe;
  • Astana.
This expansion has significantly broadened the geographic reach of the business and enhanced its capacity to promptly satisfy the needs of Kazakhstani citizens for online grocery delivery.
